3 Pros Basement Systems Case Studies: SmartDrain- Preventing Crawl Spaces from Flooding
Challenge
Homeowners living in Aquia Harbour, VA became aware of mold in their crawlspace, but this wasn't the first time. They had repeatedly discovered it and were tired of trying to eliminate the problem again and again with no success. They previously had it treated by another company but the mold came back only a few months later. In order to ensure their mold issue would finally be gone for good, they called 3 Pros Basement Systems to treat and repair their crawl space.
Solution
Our 3 Pros Basement Systems Specialist, Jason Brown, provided a multi-step solution, and then our Production crew got to work. The team began by removing all of the moldy and damaged insulation from the crawl space ceiling, along with the old vapor barrier. Then they used MoldX2 to treat the area and clean the mold off all of the affected surfaces.
The crew installed our CleanSpace Encapsulation System next, which includes Drainage Matting, TerraBlock, and CleanSpace liner. This durable vapor barrier prevents the evaporation of ground moisture into the crawlspace air. No more rot, rust, mold, odors, or other moisture-related problems.
The SmartDrain System was also installed. This is a crawl space drain with a bottomless liner and an airtight lid. If a plumbing failure occurs, it will drain the water beneath the vapor barrier, preventing it from collecting. However, more importantly, it will detect and alert these homeowners of any future leaks so they can handle it before any flooding occurs, creating more problems.
The last steps of this Stafford County project involved the installation of the SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier, helping to keep everything dry and healthy, and an EverLast crawl space door, ensuring an air and water seal.
These happy Aquia Harbour residents now have a healthy and dry crawl space that is mold free and will stay that way. They integrated our SmartDrain System with their home alarm system and are so relieved that they will be alerted immediately should any plumbing leaks transpire in the future.
