During this installation of a radon system in Manassas, VA the 3 Pros team found that the soil under the home contained very dense clay. This makes it difficult to get the proper amount of air flow in the system, thus preventing the successful venting of radon. The 3 Pros team was able to overcome this physical challenge to provide the customer with a properly working radon system.
Our solution was to increase the size of the extraction pit to expose more soil to the sucton point and attempt to increase air flow. Over time, this air flow would improve due to the introduction of the radon sub-slab depressurization system. A deeper extraction pit than normal was dug and an excess of soil was removed. The rectangular shaped pit was covered and air-sealed with an acrylic cover to create a negative sub-soil depressurization system. Even though the air flow was still relatively low after these efforts, the 3 Pros team was able achieve a satisfactory result despite opposing environmental factors.
