Crawl Space Repair Case Studies: Crawl Space Insulation Project
This Philomont, VA homeowner called us to keep their water lines from freezing in the winter. After the original consultation, Comfenergy found there were multiple issues all related to the home being built over a crawl space.
The crawl was damp, the cut work running through the crawl was not insulated well, and the floors above were cold.
Our team put together a "one solution solves it all" proposal for the homeowner. The work took 3 days to complete, but in the end it turned out to be an incredible crawl space encapsulation solution.
Now the pipes don't freeze, the duct work doesn't lose heating/cooling and doesn't condensate any more. The floors above are now nice and cozy!
Look at this nasty crawl space. Falling insulation making the floors above cold in the winter.
Little to no vapor barrier. The perfect recipe for mold/mildew growth.
Look at this mess. YUCK!
Even the duct work was exposed. No insulation and leaking energy into the crawl. This also makes the ducts sweat in the summer too. Perfect for mold!
Everything was removed from the crawl including the vapor barrier from the floor. Notice how damp the floor is?
Dimple matting was installed to allow the ground to dry out and stay dry under the future 20 mil anti-microbial CleanSpace vapor barrier
The final product! Closed cell spray foam on the walls. Totally encapsulated crawl space.
This crawl space now keep the pipes from freezing, makes the floors above warm in the winter, and lowers the humidity levels.
Look how nice and dry the crawl space is now!
What a difference!
