Crawl Space Repair Case Studies: Basement Humidity Control

Challenge

This Fort Myer, VA homeowner was looking to control humidity in the crawl space and basement before finishing it.

Solution

We first leveled the crawl space.  Then, we installed "TerraBlock" which is a thin layer of insulation on the floor of the crawl to keep the ground from sucking the heated air out of the crawl space in the winter.  A 20mil "CleanSpace" vapor barrier was installed over the "TerraBlock".  Then closed cell foam spray was installed on the rim joists and the walls to seal and insulate the crawl. Total humidity control!

Then we tackled the basement. The basement was completely sprayed on all walls with cloased cell foam to prevent humidity from entering the basement.  Special care was taken around pipes as to not encase them in the spray in case they ever needed to be worked on or replaced.
